The challenge
iwi has a large store with lots of rich media to show their customers more about the product and the benefits. Increasing the Shopify store loading speed was crucial for iwi so their visitors could explore their potent Omega-3 supplement and all of its benefits.
Passing Core Web Vitals on Shopify
Core Web Vitals represent a distinct facet of the user experience and reflects the real-world user experience.
Each metric on Google’s Core Web Vitals has a certain pass rate that all sites should hit, our goal was to go above this, making sure the site had room for changes in technology and Core Web Vital Standards.
Shopify Store Load Speed Desktop – Before
Before our site speed optimisations, the iwi store sat at around 32. With certain scripts blocking core functions and looking deeper into the tech stack and overall store setup, there were a few fixes that we could apply to increase site speed.
CLS was one of the biggest improvements, ensuring that users have a smooth experience and are able to view elements seamlessly is one of the Core Web Vitals that helped dramatically increase load time.
Shopify Store Load Speed Desktop – After
Through a range of different site speed optimisations such as minifying CSS, decreasing CLS to 0 and delaying render-blocking Java Script we were able to achieve a speed score of 99.
A number of different elements to rich media were also enhanced to further improve the store loading speed that created a much more refined and clean experience for visitors.
Shopify Store Load Speed Mobile – Before
Due to the improvements needed on desktop, similar issues also needed to be amended on mobile. With the majority of iwi Life’s visitors being on mobile, it was crucial that we improved the mobile store speed.
Shopify Store Load Speed Mobile – After
With the Shopify store speed optimisations we were able to take the mobile store speed from 17 to 83.
The results
Through our design and development phases and site speed optimisations, we had been able to increase conversions to 4.9%
